In Arizona, a police dog met a tragic end while assisting in the search for armed robbery suspects. Deputies from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department were actively pursuing two male suspects when they noticed an individual entering a fenced-off commercial premises at approximately 8 p.m. last Friday.

They released their K-9, named Kenzo, to search the area, as stated in a news release from the sheriff’s department on Saturday.

Unfortunately, when Kenzo failed to return, deputies entered to find him lying near one of the suspects, severely injured. Despite swift efforts to get him to a veterinarian, Kenzo could not survive his injuries and had sadly passed away.

“We are saddened by the loss of K9 Kenzo and reminded of the dangers our deputies face along with their K9 partners who serve right beside them,” the department stated.

Two individuals, namely Cody D. Bartlett, aged 36, and Juan Tacho, aged 32, were apprehended on allegations of committing armed robbery and aggravated robbery.

Additionally, Bartlett faces charges of causing harm or fatality to a working or service animal, as confirmed by the sheriff’s department. People who hold affection for dogs and K-9 units from across the nation expressed their condolences for the loyal canine who lost its life in the line of duty.

The Georgia Police K9 Foundation wrote on X, “K9 Kenzo was killed (stabbed) during the attempt of locating two suspects. May he rest in peace. Thank you for your service, Kenzo. Our thoughts and prayers with all involved.”
