This month, a former aide to former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was detained on suspicion of procuring a picture of a 6-year-old girl being sexually assaulted.
According to court records obtained by the New Jersey Globe, Kevin Tomafsky, 41, was apprehended on August 15 after a grand jury indicted him in July on a number of crimes related to child sexual abuse.
Since October 2022, when Snapchat alerted the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about the suspected child sex abuse upload, which was then forwarded to the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s office, Tomafsky has been the subject of an inquiry.
After the Gloucester prosecutor’s office evaluated documents provided by Snapchat, the publication said that Tomafsky received a picture from the platform showing a young girl having oral sex with an adult.
Less than 1,000 things purported to constitute evidence of child sexual abuse were allegedly discovered when investigators carried out a search order in the home Tomafsky lives with his mother in December.
Tomafsky was apparently accused of having intercourse with a child, conspiring to jeopardize the welfare of a child, allowing a minor to use child pornography, and having child pornography in his possession.
A second person was accused with six criminal offenses, including intentionally sexually penetrating the 6-year-old and taking pictures of a youngster performing a sex act.
The Globe named the second suspect as the victim’s father, citing three sources.
The Salem County Correctional Facility in Mannington is now housing Tomafsky.
The site claims that the alleged child predator worked for the Christie administration between 2010 and 2012. He oversaw the surrogates who represented the governor at events while working in the scheduling department.
On the advice of Christie’s office, he was subsequently employed for an 11-month term as a government and community relations representative at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
Tomafsky’s most recent positions includes working on Republican political campaigns as well as serving as the legislative director for Assemblyman Sam Fiocchi (R-Vineland) and president of the Washington Township Republican Club.
Prior to his resignation on Friday, he was employed by an unnamed government agency.
