The Washington Post reports that prosecutors are nearing a decision on whether or not to charge Hunter Biden, the President’s son, with tax fraud and firearms offenses. The investigation has been ongoing for four years and the outcome could have significant consequences for President Biden’s reelection campaign.

According to reports, Hunter Biden’s legal team, including his long-standing lawyer Chris Clark, held a meeting with officials from the Department of Justice last week to discuss the ongoing investigation. They were seen entering the DOJ headquarters early on Wednesday morning. Chris Clark is a well-known attorney based in Washington, with a history of representing clients in high-profile government investigations and prosecutions. He is considered to be a skilled and effective litigator.

The meeting between Hunter Biden’s legal team and officials from the Department of Justice included representatives from the tax division and the Delaware US Attorney’s office, which is led by David Weiss. Weiss was appointed as the US Attorney for the District of Delaware by former President Donald Trump in 2018 and has been overseeing the federal investigation into Hunter Biden’s tax affairs since then. Prior to his appointment, Weiss worked as a federal prosecutor in the same office and also had experience in private practice as a litigation partner at a law firm.

During a Congressional hearing on Tuesday, Attorney General Merrick Garland reaffirmed his previous testimony and referred any further questions about the Hunter Biden case to the US attorney for the District of Delaware, who has jurisdiction over the matter. In recent weeks, Hunter Biden’s legal team had requested an update on the status of the case from the Justice Department.

The investigation reportedly involves allegations of money laundering and tax fraud related to Hunter Biden’s business dealings in China and Ukraine. Prosecutors have been looking into his tax affairs since 2018 and investigating his Chinese business dealings. The FBI and the IRS are said to be involved in the investigation.
