After his recent scandal, another one has befallen Joe Biden.

Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) introduced a fresh impeachment article against Alejandro Mayorkas, the secretary of Homeland Security, alleging that he had broken his oath of office and failed to uphold immigration law.

Biggs, who has consistently requested Mayorkas’ dismissal, submitted the articles in 2021, charging Mayorkas with acting in a way that was improper for a US officer. The impeachment campaign has been renewed with a record high of 2.3 million migrant interactions in FY 2022, including 251,000 in just December, and Republicans now in control of the House.

The release of such individuals into the interior of the United States is not an option available to the Secretary of Homeland Security. Additionally, he terminated the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP), a Trump administration initiative that detained migrants in Mexico while they awaited hearings.

Instead of taking steps to preserve operational control of the border, Secretary Mayorkas’ actions have rendered the border less secure and encouraged immigrants to enter the country illegally. His acts have violated the fundamental principles of the Constitution as well as the will of Congress.

The GOP leadership has expressed some support for the Mayorkas impeachment push. In November, then-Speaker McCarthy declared that Mayorkas had to step down or risk being impeached.

Kevin McCarthy, the House Speaker, stated that he cannot and must not continue in that role. If Secretary Mayorkas doesn’t step down, House Republicans will look into every directive, every action, and every omission to see if we can launch an impeachment investigation.

In response, the DHS asserted that Mayorkas has no intention of leaving his position and that Congress is in charge of repairing the damage done to the immigration system by the previous administration.
