The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that the current outbreak has affected 38 states in addition to Canada. The most recent onset date documented is November 10th.

Following the initial report of the outbreak on November 17, a thorough investigation has been in progress to ascertain any potential association of other products with the reported sickness.

Numerous recalls linked to cantaloupes have been initiated. Crown Jewels Produce recalled whole fresh cantaloupes, Sofia Produce extended their recall of fresh whole cantaloupes, and CF Dallas recalled fresh cut fruit products derived from whole cantaloupes that were also part of the recalls.

Retailers such as Sprouts, Trader Joe’s, and Kwik Trip have removed the fruit from their store shelves. According to the CDC, ingestion of food contaminated with salmonella can result in symptoms of food poisoning within a period ranging from 12 to 72 hours.

Typically, the symptoms endure for a duration of 4 to 7 days, encompassing diarrhea, fever, and abdominal pain. Individuals with compromised immune systems, the elderly, and children under the age of five are at a higher risk of experiencing severe infections.

Individuals experiencing symptoms are advised to reach out to their healthcare provider to report their symptoms and seek necessary care.
