During the G7 summit in Hiroshima, Japan on Sunday, President Biden openly acknowledged the diplomatic accomplishment of his predecessor, former President Donald Trump.

“Look, look at the meeting we had here today, today and yesterday, the Quad. Did I, I bet you I would… maybe some of you thought it, but I doubt many, many people in this audience or any other audience would’ve said that, two years had to be elected I’d be able to convince India, Australia, Japan, and the United States to form an organization called the Quad to maintain stability in the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea,” Biden stated.

According to RNC Research, it was noted that the Quad was reinstated in 2017 during President Trump’s tenure.

CNN’s 2021 report stated that the Quad meetings were a continuation of the diplomatic approach initiated during the Trump administration.

The Quad summit’s newfound significance represents a notable instance of consistency between the Trump administration and the Biden White House, despite the latter’s substantial reversal of its predecessor’s foreign policy.

Additionally, it serves as a further indication of the administration’s intention to prioritize diplomacy in the Asia-Pacific region, even if it meant straining relations with France in order to deploy nuclear-powered submarines in that area.

The Quad, unlike NATO, is not an official military alliance. However, this does not eliminate the possibility of conducting joint military exercises in the region. Furthermore, there is increasing speculation that a more formal structure might develop, leading to discussions about the true purpose and objectives of the Quad.

In spite of Chinese aggression in the region, their concealment of the Covid-19 pandemic, and incidents involving spy balloons being sent over the U.S., President Biden emphasized on Sunday that the United States did not seek ‘strategic decoupling’ from China. He also suggested that he would be engaging in a conversation with China’s President Xi Jinping in the near future.
