Steven Van Zandt, famed guitarist and founding member of Bruce Springsteen’s E-Street Band, passionately pleaded with his loyal fan base.

This past Sunday, he did it with a fervent post on Facebook. The core of his demand? “Annihilate those (Republican) insects!”

This rallying call was directed squarely towards Republicans or about half of the country. This angry outburst occurred in the middle of a heated, swear-filled exchange on the unpredictable social media site Twitter.

Van Zandt’s fiery response ignites controversy

The spark that ignited this intense exchange was initiated by the accomplished musician himself, as he unleashed a torrent of invective against those he deemed “Republican white supremacist lowlife cowards and weaklings, who rely on firearms to exude masculinity.”

This was done in reaction to the efforts of Tennessee lawmakers to increase restrictions on access to firearms.

Van Zandt was quickly called out by a watchful Twitter user for his incendiary language, but the guitarist didn’t back down from his tirade. This exposed his passionate rebuttal for everyone to see.

Economic harm as a punitive measure against religious freedom legislation

There is nothing particularly remarkable about Van Zandt’s entry into politics.

His 2016 position against governments introducing “exceptionally repugnant and malevolent” religious freedom legislation was noted by Breitbart News. What exactly is his plan? Punish them by making their financial situation worse.

Van Zandt told Rolling Stone that, sadly, for some people, the language they understand is that of financial hardship. He said this offstage at New York’s prestigious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

“It’s lamentable that economic pain is the only catalyst for some to adopt moral righteousness,” he remarked.

Van Zandt went on to explain, “This insidious, heinous discrimination is beginning to disseminate from one state to another and we realized it was high time to take a stand and curtail its proliferation at the onset.”
