Former First Lady Melania Trump dedicated several weeks to being with her mother in Miami, Florida, foregoing the family’s holiday celebrations. Regrettably, her mother did not overcome the health challenges she faced.

On January 9, the ex-First Lady conveyed the somber information about her mother, Amalija Knavs, passing away due to illness. Through a statement shared on X, the platform formerly named Twitter, Melania expressed the loss, emphasizing her perception of her mother as a resilient woman radiating grace, warmth, and dignity. She underscored her mother’s profound love for the family and unwavering devotion. The former first lady pledged to uphold and cherish her late mother’s legacy with honor and love.

The ex-president shared his sentiments on TRUTH Social, expressing profound sadness within his family regarding the passing of the matriarch. He commended his late mother-in-law as an exceptional individual and conveyed that her presence would be dearly missed by all.

The circumstances surrounding Knavs’ demise remain unclear. Nevertheless, she faced significant illness in the weeks preceding her passing. Melania stood steadfastly by her side throughout the holiday season, notably absent from the customary family photo. On New Year’s Eve, the former POTUS, Trump, hosted a gathering and informed participants that his wife was attending to her unwell mother.

In 2018, Knavs, the mother of the former First Lady, became a naturalized American citizen during her son-in-law’s presidential term. At that time, she and her husband were residing in New York. Born in Austria in 1945, she spent her formative years in Austria and Slovenia. During her adulthood, she held the position of a pattern maker at a clothing factory, overseeing the production process to ensure the quality of the garments.

In 1966, she entered matrimony with Viktor Knavs, and together they had two daughters. Knavs is survived by her husband, two daughters, son-in-law, and grandson, Barron Trump.
