An 18-year-old is charged with homicide following a tragic collision resulting in the death of four individuals and leaving two children hospitalized. The teenager, with a history of reckless driving, was driving at a speed exceeding 100 mph when the accident occurred, colliding with the minivan carrying the victims. The accused, who sustained serious injuries in the incident, is currently detained on a substantial bail.
March 19 saw Andrea Hudson, aged 38, picking up five children, including her two, from a homeschooling event in Renton, Washington. Meanwhile, 18-year-old Chase Daniel Jones was speeding through town in his recently purchased Audi A4, weaving through traffic in a 40 mph zone at speeds exceeding 100 mph.
At approximately 1 p.m., as Hudson traversed the intersection of Southeast 192nd Street and 140th Avenue, Jones disregarded a red light at considerable speed and collided with the side of her vehicle. The force of the impact propelled the minivan into the path of two other vehicles, resulting in the tragic deaths of Hudson, 12-year-old Boyd Buster Brown, 12-year-old Eloise Wilcoxson, and her 13-year-old sister Matilda Wilcoxson. Two of Hudson’s children sustained severe injuries and remained in intensive care as of March 23. Data retrieved from Jones’s vehicle indicates he was driving at a speed of 112 mph at the time of the collision.
Jones sustained serious injuries as well, but he was discharged from the hospital on March 22 and promptly taken into custody at the King County Jail. His bail has been established at $1 million. During the bail hearing, prosecutors informed the magistrate that Jones had previously been involved in two high-speed accidents resulting in the total loss of his vehicles within the past year.
Following one of these incidents, where he collided with another vehicle at an intersection, mirroring the circumstances of the collision with Hudson, the teenager confessed to a detective, stating, “It was an open straight road, so I gave it some gas.” He also acknowledged that he had been driving at excessive speed, unable to prevent the accident. Now, due to his failure to heed the lesson from that experience, four individuals have tragically lost their lives.
