A father from Anne Arundel County, Maryland, was tragically killed while defending his son against bullies. Christopher Michael Wright, a 43-year-old resident of Maryland, was outside his house on Friday, May 19, when he was confronted by a group of teenagers and adults. It is believed that the group intended to escalate a conflict that had originated earlier that day at Brooklyn Park Middle School. Apparently, Wright’s 14-year-old son had been involved in a fight with one of the teenagers at school. According to witness accounts provided by Wright’s fiance, Tracy Karopchinsky, he informed the group that his son would not be coming outside to engage in a fight with them. At one point, the group even threatened to enter the house and retrieve the child.
Wright bravely confronted the angry group and prevented them from entering his home, despite their insistence that he fight in his son’s stead. The attackers consisted of adults ranging from their mid-20s to mid-30s. Currently, no suspects involved in the altercation have been identified.
Security footage provided evidence that Wright engaged in a physical altercation with the group, resulting in a severe brain injury. Karopchinsky, Wright’s fiance, recounted that the security camera footage captured their 12-year-old son rushing to the scene, running outside, and desperately calling out for his father, “Daddy, Daddy, Daddy!” The child attempted to assist his father, but unfortunately, his efforts were unsuccessful.
According to Karopchinsky, the harm inflicted on Wright occurred prior to the arrival of the ambulance, and he experienced a seizure. In her opinion, she believed that the injury he sustained could not have been caused solely by punches. Tragically, Wright passed away one day after the incident due to a severe brain injury sustained during the altercation.
